Having launched his eponymous label almost 15 years ago, award-winning designer David Tlale has etched his mark on the South African, continental, as well as global fashion design landscape.
Since his catwalk debut in 2003, David Tlale has enjoyed outstanding exposure on both local and international catwalks, taking the label to astronomic heights.
February 2015 marked his 6th solo show at this fashion week, a show which set tongues wagging and critics praising his work. Tlale etched his mark during Spring and Fall 2015 when international male model Tyson Beckford opened and closed his show: a bold and loud statement.
November 2014 proved to be even better for Tlale. He was awarded with two major prestigious awards: Designer of the Year at the African Diaspora Awards held in New York City and also the African Icon of Hope Award presented to him in Nigeria. It was also in November that he made the global list in the London-based New African magazine as one of the 100 Most Inspiring Africans and was also featured in TIME magazine as one of the designers shaping Africa’s new look.
In addition to these, David joined the global brand Cîroc Premium Vodka as one of its 4 South African influencers, joined by other influencers on the continent such the internationally acclaimed D’Banj.
Tlale was the headline designer at the 2015 & 2016 BET Awards Experience where he showcased a capsule collection of 12 pieces, in addition to presenting an award at the music awards.
A favourite on the South African and African fashion platforms, Tlale has showcased his inimitable designs at all the premium fashion week platforms in South Africa, the Diaspora as well as global fashion weeks.
