The House of David Tlale launches a first-of-its-kind collaboration with Avon

The internationally acclaimed designer, David Tlale – and one of the world’s best beauty brands, Avon – launched their first #DavidTlalexAvon collaboration to a star-studded audience, the media, and friends of the brand on Tuesday, 18 February at The Westcliff Four Seasons, in Johannesburg.

This glamourous launch came as a beautiful surprise to many, and in true David Tlale nature, guests were welcomed with gifts; a sizzling limited-edition pair of black sunglasses branded ‘David Tlale’ as they enjoyed delectable canapes and drinks, all while listening to how this collaboration came about.

This partnership is not only Avon’s first collaboration of its kind, but the first one in the direct-selling business in South Africa. Avon and Tlale customers, who have always wanted to adorn themselves with coveted fashion items and cosmetics products from the two brands, will now get an opportunity to directly purchase the exclusive and limited-edition pair of sunglasses, a tote bag, a sling bag and a scarf designed by Tlale, from the 1st of March 2020.

According to Avon, the partnership is a response to feedback from Avon beauty representatives and customers who have been advocating for this fashion icon to increase the allure and attractiveness of the brand.

“Avon has a proud and illustrious history of being a company for women that has continuously used the power of beauty to change people’s lives. This partnership with an internationally renowned fashion icon gives us an opportunity to reaffirm our drive to democratize beauty for millions of our customers and to contribute meaningfully to the empowerment of our Beauty Entrepreneurs and the female economy. We are looking forward to continuing to harness our expansive footprint and the power of our brand to make a positive difference in the lives of those we touch,” says Mafahle Mareletse, Managing Director of Avon Justine South Africa.

Tlale, who draws inspiration from his late mother, Joyce Tlale, also shared with the audience memories of him growing up, watching his mother and sisters order and use Avon products. He also told an inspiring story of a woman who became an “Avon Beauty Entrepreneur” without anything and has now been able to achieve more through that.

He comments, “As a fashion house, the David Tlale brand has always sought to break the mould and associate themselves with institutions that have served as benchmarks in the fashion industry. Our partnership with Avon mirrors our aspirations of taking our brand to the next level, by leveraging the ubiquity of the Avon brand and the desirability of our offerings.”

He adds, “Avon Justine has a single-minded purpose of empowering women, and it is these values that attracted me to join forces with the company. This is a win-win partnership in which our broader base of customers will ultimately benefit.”

Tlale noted that these items will not be available for purchase in his studio, but will only be available for purchase through an Avon Beauty Entrepreneur/Rep or from any of  Avon’s digital platforms, including the Avon ON app and the Avon Store.

After the night’s formalities, guests were entertained to an afterparty headlined by the highest charting female DJ in Africa, DJ Zinhle, and media personality, Thando Thabethe, who handled the MCing duties for the night.
