Fashion Trends: Grey + Yellow | Pantone Colour Combination of the Year

Colour of the season

Each year, the fashion and creative world wait patiently for the Pantone powers to dictate the colour that will inform the season’s aesthetic. In years past, the colour authority bestowed the title of “Colour of the Year” to singular hues like Classic Blue (2020) and Living Coral (2019). However, for the year 2021, the colour trend forecasters decided upon the daring pairing of Ultimate Grey and Illuminating Yellow.

While the colour duo will likely have more prominence on runway shows, designer collections, and fast fashion outlets, later this year, we’d like to take a look at the African and international designers who seemed to have received the colour combination ‘memo’, well ahead of time.

So, it comes as no surprise, that the designer caught onto the yellow and grey fashion combination back in 2019. Fast-forward to his Spring/Summer 2021 show where he presented the same colour pairing in a more muted and subdued, metallic grey and pastel yellow tones.
