It's a thrilling week for African fashion! AFI is bursting with pride to congratulate two incredible alumni of our Fastrack program who achieved major international success.
First up, Shamyra Moodley, the visionary designer behind LaaniRaani and the 2021 AFI Fastrack Designer of the Year, is making waves in Paris!
Her sustainable label, renowned for its artful upcycled creations, has landed a spot in the prestigious Parisian landmark, Galerie Lafayette. This is a huge win for conscious fashion and a testament to Shamyra's innovative spirit.
Adding to the celebratory mood, Thebe Magugu, AFI Fastrack 2015 alum and the 2019 LVMH Prize winner, unveiled a captivating new space in Johannesburg! This exciting store, exhibition, and event venue in Dunkeld promises to be a haven for fashion enthusiasts and a vibrant platform for Thebe's visionary creations.
A garment from Thebe's AW2023 collection, "Folklorics," secured a coveted spot at the Met Costume Institute's "Sleeping Beauties: Re-Awakening Fashion" exhibition. This is a groundbreaking moment for African fashion on the global stage.
AFI is incredibly proud of Shamyra and Thebe's remarkable achievements.
They are shining examples of the immense talent nurtured through the AFI Fastrack program, and they continue to pave the way for African fashion on a global scale.
