Unlike fashion shows, nature cannot be choreographed. AFI held a press conference for all members of the media, designers, show producers, sponsor and service provider representatives on Saturday 25th March at 1pm at the Marina Room at the One & Only hotel at the V & A Waterfront; regarding the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town 2017 show postponement on account of the severe gale winds, following the advice of our engineering and health and safety experts.
Executive Chairperson of AFI, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe addressed the attendees regarding the rescheduled return of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town 2017 to the Mother City confirmed for the 6- 8th April 2017 in a beautifully curated indoor venue, which is yet to be revealed.
There was a wonderful turn out as people showed their support and solidarity for the unfortunate postponement of the highly anticipated shows. Joined by representatives from Mercedes-Benz South Africa, Chattels (AFI’s appointed tent supplier), health and safety supervisor, show producers and our local and Pan-African designers.
AFI will work closely with its stakeholders, show producers and suppliers to ensure that the utmost effort is made to accommodate local and Pan-African designers on the revised dates.
Remaining positive, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe assured attendees that AFI, under her leadership will turn this unforeseeable circumstance into a greater success, with designers being afforded the marketing platform that they deserve.
The press conference was well-received, and after answering questions from an array of attendees, it is clear that the fashion fraternity stand in solidarity for the executive decision to put the safety of people first; and look forward to experiencing the fashion focused Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town 2017 from the 6-8th April.
