Mia Le Roux to Reveal National Costume at Cape Town Fashion Week

In a moment of triumph and resilience, Miss South Africa, Mia le Roux, is set to grace the runway at Cape Town Fashion Week (CTFW): The Edit Spring/Summer 24.

The highly anticipated event, hosted by Africa Fashion International (AFI), will unveil her Miss Universe national costume—a creation she was unable to showcase due to unforeseen health challenges during the global pageant in Mexico earlier this month.

Le Roux's national costume, crafted by the renowned AFI Atelier in collaboration with legendary Ndebele artist Dr. Esther Mahlangu, is a masterpiece of artistry and heritage.

The garment, designed under the creative direction of Gavin Rajah, showcases South Africa’s vibrant cultural identity through over 150 hours of intricate handwork, including crystals and beads. The result is an ensemble that radiates both opulence and authenticity.

Reflecting on the reveal, Le Roux shared her excitement: "Countless hours of work went into these magnificent pieces, and I am thrilled to showcase them at Cape Town Fashion Week. This is not just about fashion but also about storytelling and pride in South Africa's heritage."

Her sentiment was echoed by Stephanie Weil, CEO of the Miss South Africa Organisation: "Mia’s journey has been challenging, but her grace and determination shine through. It is fitting that her national costume debuts on home soil, celebrating her and the artistry behind this extraordinary design."

Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe, AFI’s Founder and Executive Chair, emphasised the broader cultural significance of the national costume: "At AFI, we are dedicated to amplifying African creativity on a global stage. Mia’s national costume is a celebration of our artisans, our heritage, and our shared vision of excellence. Despite her recent challenges, Mia’s resilience is emblematic of the strength we champion in African fashion."

Le Roux’s runway debut is scheduled for Saturday, November 30, at 16:00, setting the stage for the exclusive AFI PRIVÉ show. The PRIVÉ collection promises a celebration of timeless sophistication, with exclusive merchandise available for discerning attendees.

As Cape Town Fashion Week approaches, anticipation builds for this intersection of fashion, culture, and personal triumph—a moment where the resilience of a queen and the vibrancy of African creativity come together under the spotlight.
