About AFI

African Fashion international (AFI) was established as part of an unequivocal determination to propel and restore refined African fashion brands on the global stage. With our understanding of quality and craftsmanship, a point of view that is unique coupled with Africa’s heritage and history, we aim to be pioneers in luxury African fashion.

Our efforts have been focused on presenting African talent at a world-class level, ensuring the best possible showcase to take the incredible skills and creative talent found on our continent to the world.

Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe is the Founder & Executive Chairperson of African Fashion International (AFI).

African Fashion International owns and operates unique and unparalleled Fashion Week showcases twice a year; AFI Joburg Fashion Week & AFI Cape Town Fashion Week. Through our platforms, we are determined to be the best fashion marketing company in Africa, by curetting, incubating, promoting and retailing refined African apparel and accessories through our world-class marketing and lifestyle events.

A part of our development strategy,  AFI’s Fastrack™ was established as an initiative that identifies and invests in the best of the continent’s young designers, by providing them with direct access to: mentorships, media exposure and business acumen, through yearlong programmes that prepare them to navigate the fashion landscape.

In addition to this development platform, AFI’s Young Designer of the Year competition annually rewards outstanding new talent, with the annual winners and runners-up going on to run their own fashion businesses. Over the past six years, AFI’s Fastrack™ incubator programme has so far assisted in developing the careers of 75 new talents.

Xperience AFI is annually held in Durban, Johannesburg, and Cape Town. Since its launch in 2017, it has emerged as a premium creative hub for millennials to interact and engage around fashion and the brands they are passionate about.

We promote a sense of entrepreneurism amongst the youth in the creative industry, by giving them a stage to promote their brand, thereby ushering in the next generation of designers, artists, and musicians.

Privé is an AFI in-house brand. AFI Privé wanted to link contemporary designs with age-old artisanal hand-craft techniques available across the African continent. While we design in house, we work with a network of skilled artisans in small communities in Madagascar, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa and many more to create beautiful, unique and interchangeable pieces. We believe in sourcing ethically and making long term and life-long transformation in the lives of the artisans which we work with.

Privé store is in Mall of Africa, Midrand.

MASTERCLASSES are scheduled for 22 March, at The Ritz Hotel in Sea Point. Our commitment to nurturing emerging African talent is evident in AFI FAST TRACK- an incubator that equips designers to succeed in the business of fashion.
