AMVCAs 2025: African Men Showcase Black Dandyism on the Red Carpet

AFI Insider

The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) took place on Saturday, May 10, 2025. As one of the biggest award ceremonies on the continent, the AMVCAs attract Africa’s biggest stars from all regions, celebrating the best of African film and television.

Hosted in Lagos, Nigeria, the weekend-long event also serves as a hub for major film and TV deals. Many see the AMVCAs as Africa’s answer to the Oscars and Emmys. While the production quality isn’t always perfect, the show still commands a large and enthusiastic viewership across Africa.

But there’s one thing the AMVCAs are perhaps best known for, overshadowing even the awards themselves, and that is the fashion on the red carpet. The AMVCA red carpet isn’t just a warm-up for the show; it’s the moment the continent holds its breath for bold, creative fashion. It’s over the top, daring, decadent, and unbelievably imaginative.

This year’s event, held just five days after the Met Gala, featured some of the most incredible looks yet-arguably a better showcase of Black Dandyism. This is no surprise.

Many of Africa’s most stylish men have been intentionally championing Afro Dandyism, and the AMVCAs provided the perfect stage. After several African stars appeared at the Met Gala in designs by African creators, the men at the AMVCAs doubled down on showcasing the continent’s finest designers and tailoring.

Here are some of the best menswear looks at the AMVCAs.

These are just a few of the menswear looks that impressed. More than anything, they showed that fashion is not merely about aesthetics. This was a celebration of African identity, craftsmanship, and the continent’s growing influence on global style.
