Kat Van Duinen presents their latest collection at Cape Town Fashion Week
Luxury meets fun: Luxe fabrics and textures take centre stage at Kat Van Duinen's collection at Cape Town Fashion Week
Kat Van Duinen’s exhilarating Cape Town Fashion Week debut was perfectly scheduled for a Friday night. A lively atmosphere took over the runway as the Cape Town-based label presented an energized show for the flirty 20-something crowd. With a fun flair and glamorous vibes, their performance brought anything but dullness to the event.
Founded in 2010, Kat Van Duinen has quickly become renowned for its high-end fashion designs, championing African artisanship and industry. Showcasing an energetic, girly collection at Fashion Week, her pieces had a bold impact on the runway; with silhouettes that billowed as models strutted their way down the ramp.
Van Duinen artfully blended classic aspects with modern techniques when creating this range; from the bold, red asymmetrical high-low skirt to the captivating black number embellished with slits on each side.
Known for their application of stunning, locally sourced fabrics and textiles, Kat Van Duinen also brought furry and feathered pieces, including an explosive white faux-fur jacket and a heart-shaped top with red faux-fur tassels framing a satin, pillow-like base.
Van Duinen produced fierce dynamism through a sparkly purple jumpsuit with three-tiered, flared pants, showing off the torso through a cut-out on the right-hand side of the piece. An unforgettable remnant from the Disco-era, flares have been experiencing a revival in contemporary wardrobes.
