It was a day of fashion, beauty, inspiration, and empowerment for women from all walks of life at AFI's Power To Empower High Tea.
Hosted at the ultra-exclusive Houghton Golf Club, the event was a celebration of the strides that women continue to make, the glass ceilings they shatter, and the barriers they break.
The glamorous event was hosted by none other than Miss Universe 2019, Zozibini Tunzi, who dazzled the audience with her charm and wit. Among the distinguished guests were the reigning Miss South Africa 2023, Natasha Joubert, and her stunning runner-up, Bryoni Govender.
The event also attracted some of the most influential business women and media personalities in the country, such as Basetsana Kumalo, Nolitha Fakude, and Philisiwe Mthethwa. Former South African First Lady, Madam Gugu Motlanthe, who looked elegant and sophisticated in a red crystal tunic midi-dress by Taibo Bacar.
The day kicked off with a fireside chat between AFI founder and executive chair Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe and Banyana Banyana coach, Desiree Ellis. Coach Ellis shared valuable insights on how to win not only on the field but also in the boardroom.
Their discussion shed light on the importance of corporate executives, entrepreneurs, and business leaders investing in women's sports to drive its growth and development.
After the fireside chat, guests were treated to a special performance by Nhlanhla Mafu of Mafikizolo. Mafu got the ladies dancing up a storm with a performance that was filled with hits from her more than two decades long career.
Before Mafu's performance, MAC Cosmetics Mokgadi Shogole took the guests through the latest beauty trends for Spring/Summer 2023. Shogole shared his expert tips on how to achieve the perfect makeup look for the season.
As is custom with AFI events, fashion was a drawcard. Guests were given a preview of the House of Nala by AFI Sandton City store's Spring/Summer collection. The collection featured designs from across the African continent, including Gavin Rajah, Malondie, Taibo Bacar, and Jeyna A.
South Africa's leading models, including Andiswa Manxiwa, Cindy Lee Joseph and Loren Jenneker, took to the venue, walking in-between tables allowing the guests to have a closer look at the garments on show.
The event was a fantastic celebration of everything women. It was a day to come together, network, be inspired, and have some fun.
During the event, Dr Moloi-Motsepe announced that from August 2024, Power To Empower will be an Annual Women's Golf Day, scheduled to take place during Women's Month.
This initiative aims to promote women's participation in golf while also supporting breast cancer awareness campaigns and programs led by the CANSA association.
A portion of the proceeds generated from the Women's Golf Day will be dedicated to these noble causes, further amplifying AFI's commitment to making a positive impact on society.
