"Comfortable in my skin, Cozy with who I am, Comfortable in my skin (cozy, cozy)."
Beyoncé really sang it best in her Renaissance hit song, Cozy.
And this is what Pantone's Colour of the Year for 2024 is giving us – a celebration of self-love and being comfortable in our own skin.
The Meaning Behind Peach Fuzz
Pantone, the colour institute which decides the trendiest colour of the year, announced Peach Fuzz on Thursday. They describe the colour as one that captures our desire to nurture ourselves and others. It's a velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul.
Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute said: "In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a colour radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless."
Wearing Peach Fuzz: Tips and Tricks
One can easily describe Peach Fuzz as a nurturing peach tone that reminds one of the African sunset, especially after a hazy summer day.
So how do we wear this colour? Well, get ahead of the trend!
At Joburg Fashion Week several designers looked to peachy and copper hues especially, Alia Baré whose collection featured a very Peach Fuzz hued print.
Malondié's collection also featured the hue, providing a gorgeous contrast in her colour scheme.
Indoni Fashion House, Gvllnt and Scalo by Sello Medupe also had a touch of Peach Fuzz in their collections.
How to add Peach Fuzz to your wardrobe this summer
Start Small
If you're not sure how to wear Peach Fuzz, try incorporating it into your accessories first. A pair of statement earrings or a scarf can add a pop of colour to your outfit.
Pair it with neutrals
Peach Fuzz is a versatile colour that can be paired with a variety of other colours. Try wearing it with classic neutrals like black, white, or beige for a timeless look.
Prints and Patterns
Embrace the trend with prints like Alia Baré's collection. The abstract patterns in Peach Fuzz can add a touch of modernity to your wardrobe.
Contrasting Colours
Take a cue from Malondié's, Gvllvnt and Scalo's collections and experiment with contrasting hues. Peach Fuzz pairs exceptionally well with deeper tones, creating a visually appealing ensemble. This will add depth and visual interest to your outfit.
Accessorise Smartly
If you're hesitant to go all-in, start with accessories. A Peach Fuzz hued handbag, scarf, or shoes can effortlessly elevate your look without overwhelming it. Or try Nikiwe Mathebula’s new jewellery collection, which features gemstones with peach and coppery tones.
Go for a monochromatic look
If you're feeling bold, try wearing Peach Fuzz from head to toe. This can be a great way to make a statement and show off your unique style.
