“Ah! I love a girl from humble beginnings who becomes a big star. It’s like the American dream. That’s how you do it.”

These now iconic words uttered by the late great Andre Leon Talley after seeing Rihanna at the 2015 Met Gala, rang in my ears as I saw Thuso Mbedu walking down the biggest red-carpet event in the world- the Cannes Film Festival.

Wearing a gold bustier with a feathered gold skirt by Louis Vuitton, the actress commanded a presence, and looked like a pro. And then she knocked me out at the closing ceremony, wearing an Elie Saab Spring 2022 Haute Couture gown, with a rose garden patterned bodice elegantly cascading to a pink and white pearl appliqué flowers skirt.

The actress has been attracting attention from the fashion industry for some time and is currently an ambassador of Dior Parfum’s newest scent, Dior Gris.

This interest in Thuso has led to her being a new Sub-Saharan ambassador for cosmetics giant, L’Oreal Paris.

“We are excited to welcome Thuso Mbedu into our L'Oréal Paris family. Her exceptional talent, timeless beauty, and commitment to empowering others align perfectly with our mission. We look forward to embarking on this exciting journey together to inspire individuals to embrace their uniqueness and celebrate their inner beauty,” says Burkhard Pieroth of L'Oréal Paris Sub-Saharan Africa.

With her talent and beauty, Mbedu is sure to continue to impress audiences for years to come.
